GOP Will Have INCREDIBLY Narrow House Majority - Trump Makes Controversial Pick For NIH - Elon Musk Threatens Vindman
The Daily Walk Through for Nov. 27, 2024
Welcome to The Daily Walk Through
Welcome to the end of the week! Wait, it's only Wednesday? Well, it's the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, which means I'm going to be off tomorrow through the rest of the weekend. Enjoy your stuffing! And for now, "stuff" your MINDS with these news stories! (Sorry, I'm so corny…)
Republicans Will Have Incredibly Narrow House Majority
Believe it or not, ballots are still being counted in California for a few races in the House of Representatives — but if things go as the experts say they will, we're looking at a GOP House majority of 220 seats to Democrats' 215. That's actually a two-seat increase for Dems.
BUT! Two of the Republicans' seats will be lost, at least temporarily, because Trump nominated those individuals to serve in his administration. And Matt Gaetz — who resigned ostensibly to be Trump's Attorney General before dropping his nomination due to allegations of sexual misconduct — is a third seat they will lose.
So the majority, until those seats are filled again, will actually be 217 seats to 215 — meaning Republicans cannot pass ANY legislation if even one person from their conference votes against their bills (presuming every Democrat is present and votes against them, too).
Quick Sidebar: There are a lot of false claims of voter fraud floating about due to conservatives not understanding that California always takes awhile to count their ballots after an election. But no such fraud is occurring — it's just the way it is.
Trump Selects Jay Bhattacharya, Skeptic of COVID Stay-at-Home Orders, to Lead NIH
Let's get some things out of the way real quick here:
Stay-at-Home orders during the pandemic, though difficult for many to go through, were effective at quelling the spread of coronavirus.
So-called "natural" herd immunity — allowing an entire community of people (or, in this case, the whole country) to freely go about their business in order to achieve immunities from COVID — would have been a dangerous path to take, inevitably leading to hundreds of thousands of more deaths in the U.S. than what were seen.
With those facts in mind, here's your "of course Trump did" moment of the day: the president-elect appointed Jay Bhattacharya, a public health professor from Stanford, to lead the National Institutes of Health (NIH), an agency he once criticized because of his errant views on — you guessed it — "natural" herd immunity and stay-at-home orders.
Elon Musk Makes Completely Bogus Accusation That Vindman Committed Treason
From The Hill:
“Vindman is on the payroll of Ukranian oligarchs and has committed treason against the United States,” Musk wrote on his social media platform X, responding to comments Vindman made in an interview about Musk’s reported conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Musk added that Vindman "will pay" for speaking out against Trump during his first impeachment saga.
Real Talk: The accusations made by Musk, of course, are completely without merit. But threats from a guy who is advising Trump? Those are very real. Expect Musk to be even more threatening to opponents of his and Trump’s vision in the future (well, at least as long as Trump and Musk stay friends…)
